On September 15 the Carlisle United Methodist Church is holding a 5K run/walk followed by a forum of speakers addressing the subject of the stigma surrounding mental illness.  The statistics surrounding mental health issues are staggering:  1 in 4 people are affected by mental illness–either themselves or someone in their family:  suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death and the 2nd leading cause of death for people ages 15-24.  Many people are hesitant to reach out for help or even talk about any issues they may be experiencing because they fear what their friends will think or say.  People hesitate to seek treatment because they fear what will appear on their records.  No person deserves to be stigmatized because of mental illness.  Please see the Carlisle Chamber web site at carlisleiachamber.org for the event flyer, registration from, and for more information about the run and speakers.  Come and join us on September 15 to learn more about this sensitive subject and to share experiences that have affected your lives.
